Jiménez: I want to make my own history with Wolves

Raúl Jiménez has declared he wants to make his own history after becoming a permanent member of the Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves squad after signing a deal to stay at Molineux until 2023.

The Mexican striker, who initially joined in the summer of 2018 on a temporary basis from Portuguese side Benfica, has already etched himself into the Wolves history books and cemented himself as Wanderers’ number nine for a new generation of supporters.

After putting pen to paper on his permanent deal, the 27-year-old expressed his joy at extending his stay in Wolverhampton.

On signing permanently for Wolves

“It’s a great honour for me to now be a permanent member of the team. I’m very happy for this permanent deal as I feel that being at Wolves suits me.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here, I enjoy playing in the pitch and, along with all my teammates, we try our best in all the matches to win.

“Since I’ve arrived here it’s all been so good. We’ve had some good moments, some bad moments; but the best ones have been so good and I’m very happy for that.”

On connection with Wolves supporters

“It’s been very nice that the people inside the club, as well as the people outside, the supporters, are happy with me and that gives me extra motivation to continue doing my best on the pitch.

“The songs the fans have made for me are amazing – it’s the first time that has happened to me. I’m very happy when I score and I’m on the pitch and I can hear it. I feel very honoured and very happy for that.

“Now I want to keep scoring so they can keep singing songs about me.”

On the atmosphere at Molineux

“They are amazing moments, because when we are here in the tunnel, hearing all the noise outside, from that moment we know that it’s going to be a very good match.

“With all the fans supporting us and making noise throughout the whole match in support of us, that’s an extra thing which gives us confidence for the match.

“All the matches here at Molineux have been very good because with a full house, all the supporters are amazing. But the FA Cup quarter-finals against Manchester United was amazing and a very good match.”

On being Wanderers’ number nine

“I feel very good to be creating my own history with this famous number. I’ve always been number nine, and it is a special number for me because all the strikers wear it, so since I was a child I liked it very much.

“All my career – from when I was young, to playing at Club America, in Benfica – I have worn the number nine shirt and I’m very happy to wear it.”

On his ambitions at Wolves

“I want to make history here at the club. With my teammates, I want to put the club back into the top places in the Premier League. I think we all want that and have that ambition.

“For myself personally, I want to keep scoring for the rest of the time I am here, and that’s going to be my main goal.”

His message to Wolves fans

“If they continue supporting us, if they continue coming to the stadium and be part of this big family and this big pack, we are going to do our best on the pitch for them and to give them all the happiness that we can.

“At the weekends we know that they make very good noises supporting us and that is why we want to give our best.”
