Joe Mason believes he and Wolves have started the season full of confidence, but will not be making any predictions about what lies ahead.
Mason has notched two goals in two-and-a-half appearances so far this season, and could have had more, and is already benefitting from the presence up front of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.
Mason rates Saturday’s performance against Reading as the best from Wolves since he arrived at the club in January, but knows more of the same will be needed tonight when Ipswich visit Molineux (7.45pm).
“I think it the best performance since I have been at the club,” said the striker.
“It was great to have the fans behind us and they played a big part in the performance
“The way we set up and pressed help, and every time we nicked the ball the fans got right behind us.
“I should have had a hat trick to be honest.
“I should have scored in the first half and couldn’t quite connect in the second.
“Still, it was nice to get one!
“As long as I am getting chances I am happy and I am confident I can get some goals this year.
“The way we are playing is different and with set pieces I have a different role.
“I am getting chances at the moment and it is up to me to take them.
“I am disappointed I didn’t score more on Saturday but the win is the more important thing.
“I am feeling confident and while it is still early days, I am pleased with how I am playing.”
Mason was deployed on the right hand side against Reading, and was able to link up well with both Bodvarsson up front and also another new signing in Joao Teixeira advancing from midfield.
“The wider role is not something I am completely used to but I do enjoy it,” he added.
“You get to run at players and get into little pockets and it is another string to my bow.
“Jon has been brilliant, exactly the sort of player I like to play with.
“And Joao is a fantastic player – very technical, and settled very well in the Championship.”
Next up is the visit of Ipswich Town tonight, another typically tough Sky Bet Championship fixture.
Mason believes Wolves are in good spirits after a promising start under Walter Zenga, but that they cannot afford to get carried away.
“Our unbeaten start has been good but we have another tough game now,” he said.
“The spirit in the dressing room really good, and we will be going out to try and get three points.
“It is so far so good – and if we sign a few more players and get stronger you never know what might happen.
“I don’t want to say we are going to do this or we are going to do that, but belief is really high in the camp at the moment
“And the way the fans have been getting behind us, the sky is the limit.”
