After their Emirates FA Cup win over Grimsby Town on Sunday, Wolves are back in Premier League action at Molineux on Wednesday night, and wolves.co.uk is here to preview the clash with Arsenal.
1 | Roll Call
Rob Edwards says a few of his players are “feeling it” when discussing the aftermath of Sunday’s tough test at Grimsby Town, confirming he’ll make changes to his 11 for the visit of the Gunners, without naming specific players. Toti has trained well again and, while Wednesday is likely to come too soon, it’s hoped that he’ll return to the squad for Crystal Palace at the weekend. Hee Chan Hwang is only at the individual work stage of his recovery, so will also be absent.
Riccardo Calafiori pulled out of the warmup on Sunday, while Ben White was withdrawn due to injury, so both are doubts for the trip to Molineux. Captain Martin Odegaard will be assessed nearer, having missed the Wigan Athletic tie due to injury. Mikel Merino is out for the long-term, while Kai Havertz suffered a muscle injury, so is expected to be absent again.

3 | Journey to Wednesday
Wolves’ last outing saw Edwards’ side book their place in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round with a battling performance on a difficult pitch away at Grimsby on Sunday afternoon. Santiago Bueno’s second half finish proved to be the difference against the League Two side, with the Uruguayan also staring in defence to stop an added time attack thanks to an incredible last-ditch challenge. That result gives the team bottom of the Premier League some momentum having taken a point from Nottingham Forest a week ago, in a game which saw the Old Gold face 35 shots, but not one could make its way past Jose Sa.
Arsenal go into Wednesday night’s clash top of the Premier League standings with a four point lead over second place Manchester City following an impressive season so far for Arteta’s men. The Gunners are currently unbeaten in their last three top flight outings since a 3-2 loss to Manchester United last month thanks to a 4-0 drubbing of Leeds United, a 3-0 victory at home to Sunderland and a point on the road against Brentford. Arsenal also secured an FA Cup fifth round spot after hitting four past Wigan Athletic in the opening half an hour on Sunday afternoon.
4 | Beating the Gunners behind closed doors
Wolves’ last Premier League win at home against Arsenal came in February 2021 when Nuno Espirito Santo’s side came from behind to earn victory.
In a rainy evening at Molineux, Nicolas Pepe had put the Gunners ahead with a well-taken shot across goal, but as half-time approached, Wolves found a route back into the tie when David Luiz upended Willian Jose in the penalty area and Ruben Neves hammered home the resulting spot kick.
After Luiz was shown a red for his foul on Jose, Arsenal went down to nine when goalkeeper Bernd Leno was sent for an early bath for a deliberate handball outside the area, but that came after Joao Moutinho had scored an unbelievable effort from 25 yards out which flew in off the post.
Wolves | Patricio, Semedo, Boly, Coady, Kilman, Neves (Dendoncker 74), Moutinho, Podence (Vitinha 62), Traore, Neto, Jose (Silva 90).
Arsenal | Leno, Bellerin, Luiz, Holding, Soares, Xhaka, Partey (Runarsson 74), Pepe (Aubameyang 61), Smith-Rowe, Saka, Lacazette (Gabriel 46).
