Preview | Man United vs Wolves

Wolves bring down 2025 at Old Trafford, with a Premier League clash against Manchester United, and here’s all you need to know before the 8.15pm kick-off.

1 | Roll Call

Rob Edwards has lost the services of midfielder Andre for Tuesday night, with the Brazilian picking up his fifth booking of the season against Liverpool on Saturday. He’ll hope that Yerson Mosquera and Santiago Bueno are both fit however, with the former going down with suspected cramp and the latter picking up a knock during the closing stages of the Liverpool game. Elsewhere, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Marshall Munetsi and Rodrigo Gomes remain out, while Emmanuel Agbadou and Tawanda Chirewa are at AFCON.

Man United are currently doing without Bruno Fernandes, who was injured against Aston Villa before Christmas. Ruben Amorim must assess Mason Mount too, after he was withdrawn early on Boxing Day, having “felt something” at half-time. Harry Maguire Matthijs de Light and Kobbie Mainoo have all been absent of late but are nearing a return. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are all on international duty at AFCON.

3 | Route to Tuesday

Wolves gave a good account of themselves at Liverpool, and could have earned a point for their efforts, but instead Santiago Bueno’s second goal of the season proved in vain. It was a third positive performance away from home which went unrewarded for Edwards, with the Old Gold narrowly losing after valiant efforts at Aston Villa and Arsenal too. Life at Molineux has been tougher, as the wait for a Premier League win goes on.

Man United beat Newcastle United 1-0 on Boxing Day, after Patrick Dorgu’s first half strike. Despite Newcastle dominating the ball, United held on for a rare clean sheet and moved fifth in the process. Amorim’s side brought in Christmas with a narrow defeat at Aston Villa and before that shared eight goals and the points with Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

4 | Festive success at Old Trafford

During the early days of 2022, Wolves won at Old Trafford thanks to a fine strike from Joao Moutinho.

The Old Gold had gone 42 years without a win at Old Trafford, but Bruno Lage set his side up perfectly and they’d have their chances before the moment arrived with eight minutes remaining.

Adama Traore was the creator and Phil Jones’ header landed to Moutinho on the edge, and he kept his nerve to fire into the far corner to seal a memorable win in Manchester.
