Opta stat pack | Wolves' 2024/25 campaign

Now the 2024/25 campaign has come to a close, Opta have crunched the numbers on Wolves’ Premier League campaign.

The campaign transformed under Vitor Pereira and two particular spells – seven points from nine following his appointment and a six-game winning run – proved telling on Wolves’ campaign.

  • No side Premier League had a longer winning run in the Premier League this season than Wolves, who beat Southampton, West Ham United, Ipswich Town, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leicester between March and April. The club’s longest ever winning run in the top flight was seven games back in October 1946.
  • When he masterminded victories over Leicester and Man United in December, Pereira became the first Wolves manager to win his first two top-flight league games in charge since Sammy Chung in August 1977. He was the second Portuguese manager to win his first two games in charge in the Premier League after Jose Mourinho.
  • Between February and April, Wolves won four successive away league games, beating Bournemouth, Southampton, Ipswich and Man United. It was just the second time the Old Gold had done that in a Premier League campaign after February 2022 under Bruno Lage.

Across the campaign, Wolves scored 54 goals which is a club record for the Premier League. Wolves’ previous best was 51 in 2019/20, when the club finished seventh under Nuno Espirito Santo. Below is how all 54 were scored, at what period of the game and from what position on the pitch.

  • Wolves hit the target with 49.8% of their shots [321] which was the ninth best record in the league and were eighth for percentage of shots which resulted in a goal [16.8%].
  • Defensively, Wolves competed in 3,921 duels which was the fifth best in the Premier League and won 51% of them – also fifth highest.
  • For team passes, the Old Gold were 12th with 16,402 and for discipline, ninth following 75 yellow cards across the campaign.

Jorgen Strand Larsen’s move from Celta Vigo proved a success, with the Norwegian international scoring big goals, particularly during the business end of the season, culminating in a Premier League Player of the Month nomination for April.

  • Strand Larsen’s 14 Premier League goals is the most ever by a Wolves player in their debut season in the competition. Raul Jimenez bagged 13 in 2018/19.
  • The Norwegian overperformed his expected goals tally by 3.73 goals (14 goals against 10.27 xG) – the seventh-highest overperformance by a player in the competition last season.
  • Strand Larsen also recorded the second-highest shot conversion rate in the competition from the players with 50+ shots (25.93%).

Fellow new signing Andre also made a big impact on the Old Gold this term. The former Fluminense midfielder received praise for his defensive work for the team, as well as distribution, including from Dave Edwards in March.

  • The Brazilian made more interceptions than any other player for Wolves and was in the top 10 for a number of other metrics across the entire league.
  • Andre won possession in the middle third of the pitch 109 times, with only Moises Caicedo (130) and Christian Norgaard (112) doing so more often, while in open play he initiated 14 sequences that resulted in a shot, only four players had more.
  • Andre’s also impressed with his range of passing, especially over greater distances. Among players with at least 50 long passes attempted, only Yehor Yarmoliuk had a higher success rate than Andre with 73.97% (54/73).

Rayan Ait-Nouri also recorded his best season yet for Wolves in an attacking sense, scoring four and adding seven assists in the Premier League – the best for any defender in the division.

  • Across all defenders in the competition last season Ait-Nouri was first for possession won in the final third (21), and joint-second for fouls won in the final third (9), dribbles attempted (120), dribbles completed (63) and touches in the opposition’s box (104).
  • In terms of expected goals (2.69) and expected assists (4), the Algerian’s total was 6.69, the fourth-highest total among Premier League defenders in 2024/25.
