Wolves take their six-match winning run to Manchester City on Friday night and wolves.co.uk presents the key talking points ahead of kick-off at the Etihad.
1 | Roll Call
Vitor Pereira confirmed his squad has “some small problems” to contend with ahead of Friday’s game, but he believes none are serious. He’ll assess his players during the final training session on Thursday, before making a decision. Jose Sa and Matt Doherty returned to the fore last weekend, and came through the match unscathed, with the goalkeeper saving a penalty. Carlos Forbs received his first minutes since January against Leicester City, while Goncalo Guedes was also involved off the bench. Yerson Mosquera, Enso Gonzalez and Sasa Kalajdzic remain long-term absentees.
Pep Guardiola has welcomed leading scorer Erling Haaland back to training this week and says he’s improving, but isn’t expected to feature on Friday night. Rodri too is back on the training pitch following a long-term layoff, but the head coach is waiting for the green light from the doctors before he selects the midfielder. John Stones and Nathan Ake remain missing through injury.

3 | Journey to Friday
Wolves made it win number six against Leicester, continuing their record-breaking run of Premier League victories. The Old Gold were at their free flowing best against the already relegated Foxes, with Matheus Cunha, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Rodrigo Gomes all finding the back of the net. The winning run began in mid-March with a 2-1 win at Southampton, while other away successes have followed at Ipswich Town and Manchester United. That trip to Old Trafford was Wolves’ last game on their travels and was made a productive one by Pablo Sarabia’s free-kick. During this winning run of matches, Pereira’s side have bagged 13 times and conceded just four goals, with back-to-back clean sheets coming thanks to the efforts of Dan Bentley and Jose Sa over the past two weekends.
Manchester City are also hitting form at the business end of season, with Guardiola determined to secure Champions League football once more. After a campaign which has seen them fail to defend their title, City are now unbeaten in eight across all competitions. Last weekend City beat Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, thanks to goals from Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol. Last time out in the Premier League Matheus Nunes scored an injury time winner against Aston Villa, who are rivals for a top four spot. At the Etihad, City have also beaten Leicester and Crystal Palace in recent weeks, whilst a win at Goodison Park helped maintain the momentum City have built.
4 | The Adama show
When City away rolls around each year, Wolves reflect on a stunning win at the Etihad from back in 2019. In arguably the greatest away performance of the Nuno Espirito Santo era, the Old Gold carried out the game plan to perfection to stun the reigning champions. Just three days after winning in Istanbul in the Europa League, the Old Gold returned to frustrate City for 80 minutes. Then, as Nuno had predicted, space opened up for the counter attack, and twice Raul Jimenez teed up Adama Traore who did the business in front of goal, sending the away end into raptures.
