Dissecting some of most important Wolves goals under the ownership of Fosun which, although they’re not known as Goal of the Season contenders, were hugely significant in the club’s recent history.
Wolves 2-1 Man United | 16th March 2019
Wolves led one-nil when Diogo Jota was sent scampering clear in the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United in 2019.
The Portuguese left Luke Shaw in a heap and progressed into the penalty area, before unleashing an effort which flew underneath Sergio Romero.
It sparked wild scenes in the South Bank, and Molineux in general, with the Old Gold heading to Wembley.
“I remember a big, big game for Wolves. It was against United in the quarter-final and it had been a long time since Wolves had been to Wembley. We were there and unfortunately lost to Watford, but that game against United was really good and I scored one great goal, so that was a great moment.” Diogo Jota
“I'm very proud of the players. We had composure, shape, good running. Very well done to the boys and it was a fantastic atmosphere. It means a lot because we know how big Wolves were in the 1950s and 1960s and there are people in the stadium who have memories of that.” Nuno Espirito Santo
The lasting impression
Wolves went on to suffer heartbreak in the semi-final. Leading 2-0 thanks to Matt Doherty and Raul Jimenez goals, the Old Gold looked set for the final before Watford’s late comeback, which was sealed in extra time.
However, Wolves regrouped in the Premier League to finish seventh and book their place in the Europa League for the following season.
