For 150 years, Wolverhampton Wanderers has stood for something more than simply football.
Since St Luke’s FC was formed in 1877, generations of players, supporters, staff and the people of Wolverhampton have shaped one of English football’s most distinctive stories. Together, they have built a club that has helped define the game, united a city and inspired countless memories across generations.
Now, throughout the 2026/27 season, Wolves will celebrate that remarkable milestone with a year-long programme of events, community initiatives and supporter experiences, honouring the club’s rich past while looking towards its future.
Running throughout every aspect of the anniversary celebrations will be eight defining qualities which have characterised Wolves across every generation:
Originals. Innovators. Grafters. Leaders. Romantics. Survivors. Challengers. Dreamers.
These themes will become the golden thread throughout the anniversary year, appearing across club content, merchandise, matchdays, branding and supporter experiences, celebrating not only what Wolves have achieved over the past 150 years, but the qualities that continue to define the club today.
Supporters will begin to see the celebrations come to life immediately, with a dedicated 150th anniversary identity now in place across the club. Inspired by Wolves’ heritage, the new branding combines bespoke typography, classic Old Gold colours and a dedicated anniversary lock-up, which will be used throughout the season.
It’s that lock-up which features on the back of 150th anniversary centrepiece – the 2026/27 home kit. The shirt, which boats a more traditional shade of old gold following a fan vote, sees the city’s coat of arms return for the first time in more than 30 years, and it’s that crest which provides the inspiration for the subtle fabric design. Meanwhile, the all-white away kit takes inspiration from the popular changed strips of the 1980s.
The celebrations will extend beyond Molineux also, with anniversary banners being installed across Wolverhampton in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council, while the newly announced Wolves Fanzone at The Halls will provide a vibrant new matchday destination in the heart of the city, bringing supporters together before every home fixture.
Throughout the season, supporters can look forward to a packed programme of anniversary activities, including:
- A series of heritage films, features and digital content celebrating the people, moments and stories which have shaped Wolves over 150 years.
- Special anniversary branding and matchday activations at Molineux throughout the season.
- A programme of events and matchdays which include former players, celebrating those who have represented the club across generations.
- A commemorative set of anniversary matchday programmes, telling the club's story in intricate detail across 23 league editions and forming an eye-catching mosaic once the collection is complete.
- A dedicated schools education programme, delivered alongside Wolves Foundation, connecting young people across the region with the club’s rich history.
- The release of ‘Out of Darkness Cometh Light’, a new documentary reflecting on one of the most remarkable and defining decades in Wolves’ modern history, the 1980s.
- A dedicated 150th anniversary fixture against Burnley in January, featuring additional heritage celebrations throughout the matchday.
- A special event on Wednesday 13th January, the club’s 150th anniversary, bringing together supporters and figures from across Wolves’ proud history.
- New anniversary retail collections, heritage storytelling and additional supporter experiences to be revealed throughout the season.
As part of the celebrations, Wolves will also ensure the anniversary leaves a lasting impact on the community by donating up to 150 tickets for every home league fixture throughout the season.
Distributed through Wolves Foundation and community organisations across Wolverhampton, the initiative will provide hundreds of people with the opportunity to experience a Wolves first-team fixture at Molineux for the very first time, helping create lifelong memories during this landmark year.
While many of the celebrations will reflect on the club’s extraordinary history, the anniversary is equally about celebrating what Wolves represents today and inspiring those who will shape the next 150 years.
Executive chairman Nathan Shi said: “Reaching our 150th anniversary is an extraordinary milestone and one that belongs to everyone who has played their part in the history of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“This club has always been about more than football. It represents the city, the people and generations of supporters who have carried Wolves through moments of great success and significant challenge. Their passion, loyalty and belief are what have made this club what it is today.
“Throughout this anniversary season we want to celebrate the people and stories that have shaped Wolves, while also inspiring the next generation to become part of our future. Whether through our content, community initiatives, matchday experiences or the opportunities we’re creating for supporters to experience Molineux for the first time, we hope this anniversary belongs to everyone."
The qualities that define Wolves' history – Originals, Innovators, Grafters, Leaders, Romantics, Survivors, Challengers and Dreamers – have been woven into the fabric of the football club for 150 years, shaping the journey so far and influencing the future.
This is only the beginning of Wolves’ anniversary celebrations, with further events, content series, retail collections and supporter experiences set to be unveiled throughout the 2026/27 season as the club celebrates 150 years of the Old Gold.
