Molineux safety update ahead of Shrewsbury Town clash

Wolves can confirm that Saturday lunchtime’s FA Cup third round tie against Shrewsbury Town at Molineux is set to go ahead as planned, following discussions with representatives of the Molineux Safety Advisory Group, which is chaired by City of Wolverhampton Council.

With a yellow weather warning for ice in place until 12pm on Saturday, staff from across the football club have been working throughout the day to clear snow and treat surrounding areas, helping to ensure the stadium footprint is as safe as possible for supporters attending the match.

As Rob Edwards and his squad continued preparations at Compton Park this morning following the impact of Storm Goretti, many other teams across the club were wrapping up warm and getting to work around Molineux, clearing pathways, gritting surfaces and assessing conditions after last night’s storm.

Following today’s safety meeting, taking into account the forecast between now and kick-off, along with the work completed by the club and council around the stadium, the Safety Advisory Group is satisfied that the fixture can take place safely.

However, supporters are strongly advised to take the weather warning seriously and to take extra care when travelling to and from the stadium, and when navigating around Molineux itself. Conditions may remain icy in places, and some pedestrian routes in the area may not have been treated.

Supporters attending the match are urged to:

  • Check travel updates in advance, as public transport may be impacted.
  • Allow significantly more time than usual for their journey, with delays possible on arrival and exit.
  • Travel with care, including wearing appropriate clothing and suitable footwear.
  • Be cautious in and around the stadium footprint, particularly where surfaces may remain icy.

Supporters are also encouraged to monitor the latest Met Office updates regularly, including before commencing their journey to Molineux, as conditions overnight may have a further impact. The club will continue to assess the situation and will provide updates should circumstances change.
