Wolves Express | Edwards' first interview and Doherty's reaction

Rob Edwards' first Wolves interview as the Old Gold's new head coach and Matt Doherty's reaction to his former coach being installed at the helm feature on the latest episode of Wolves Express.

Friday’s episode of the club’s official bitesize podcast begins with the first words from the new boss as Edwards outlines his initial thoughts on taking over at Molineux.

The former Old Gold defender and coach has returned to the club after five years away, but this time as the main man in charge of turning the season around after a disappointing start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, and he explains why he made the decision to leave a Middlesbrough side second in the Championship table and join Wolves.

Edwards also shares his thoughts on what he hopes he can achieve in the short-term and long-term with the team he first joined as a player 21 years ago, the conversations he's held with executive chairman Jeff Shi and the advantages of joining a club he knows inside and out.

As well as explaining why Wolves is a dream move for him, he also admits the next few months are going to be a tough challenge, but Edwards has no doubt of the quality in the squad, and has said what he feels needs to be done now to bring smiles back to the faces of Wolves supporters and players.

There is also reaction from Doherty who played both games under Edwards when the Welshman filled in as interim manager back in 2016 and he gives an insight into what his new head coach was like as a young, up and coming coach almost a decade ago.

Doherty - who has remained in close contact with Edwards since his time as a first-team coach - also asserts his belief in the gaffer's ability to help get Wolves back to winning ways in the Premier League and how as one of the team captains he's going to do everything possible to make Edwards' Wolves tenure a success.

Released three times a week – every Monday, Wednesday and Friday – Wolves Express is packed with news, updates and exclusive interviews on both the playing and non-playing side of the club, complementing other offerings of the Official Wolves Podcast and Matchday Live Extra.
