Wolves’ football development partnership with Houston Wolves Soccer Club has been flourishing recently with the two clubs teaming up in the US to deliver coaching sessions to children.
The Old Gold’s global football development team have been in Texas during the last two weeks, working with Houston Wolves to deliver sessions to boys and girls aged between seven and 15.
Into the second year of the partnership, this is the second time coaches from Wolves have travelled out to Houston, where dozens of young people have been in attendance to learn from the club’s football development coaches.
Joe Hunt, head of football development at Wolves, said: “We're delighted to be back in Houston again. Following the success of last year’s football camps, we are now here for two weeks and week one was huge success.
“Over the course of the week, 70 players came out and battled the Texas sun, and even with soaring temperatures they were amazing to coach. The guys here at Houston Wolves have not only done a great job improving them as players, but also as well-mannered young people. All three coaches have nothing but praise for the players and we really enjoyed coaching them.
“To finish the week off, on Saturday morning all the players came back for an in-house mini tournament. The environment created by players, parents and staff was incredible. There was some lovely football played but also plenty of encouragement coming from the sides.”
The partnership between Wolves and Houston Wolves Soccer Club is built on a foundation of mutual support and collaboration. Wolves’ experienced coaching staff provide online coaching lessons to the club’s coaches and offer guidance to align the Houston Wolves Soccer Club curriculum with the renowned development framework practiced in the UK.
As well as Wolves staff visiting Houston to conduct the intensive coaching sessions, Houston Wolves are also bringing groups of players and parents over to England, where participants can have the opportunity to train at Compton Park, tour Molineux, attend a Premier League match, and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of English football.
Derek Williams, CEO of Houston Wolves, said: “Our partnership with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC is an authentic investment in our players and coaches. Having Joe, Ryan Griffiths and Cody Harper here in Houston brings genuine Premier League coaching to our fields, giving our kids direct access to methods used at the highest level.
“Just as importantly, they work closely with our coaching staff throughout the season to ensure we’re delivering the same standards you’d find at Wolves in England. Everything we do is about creating the best environment for our players to thrive.”
Stephen Williams, Houston Wolves technical director, said: “Our Wolves Development Camps in Houston give our players an incredible opportunity to experience Premier League-level training without leaving home.
“With Joe, Ryan and Cody leading the sessions, our kids learn proven Wolves Way methods that challenge them technically, improve their understanding of the game, and build their confidence. These camps create an environment where players grow quickly and take what they learn back to their teams all season long.”
Adam Williams, director of coaching at Houston Wolves, added: “Having Wolves coaches lead our Wolves Way Development Camp is a clear example of our commitment to raising the bar for our players and coaches alike.
“Joe, Ryan and Cody bring proven expertise and fresh perspectives that not only help our kids develop on the field but also sharpen our coaching team behind the scenes. This partnership ensures our entire club is aligned with the same high standards seen at Wolves in England, keeping our players at the centre of everything we do.”
