Internationals | Gomes and Bueno set of U21 Euros

Rodrigo Gomes and Hugo Bueno will begin their U21 European Championship campaigns on Wednesday.

Held in Slovakia, the Euros begin on Wednesday and Bueno will be representing Spain and Gomes has been called up for the Portugal squad, and both will feature on the opening day.

Bueno will hope for minutes in the opening game, when Spain face the hosts at Tehelne pole in Bratislava at 5pm. Their group continues with a Romania challenge on Saturday afternoon and a meeting with Italy in their final group game.

Portugal also begin their competition on Wednesday against France at 8pm, before taking on Poland on Saturday night and Georgia next Tuesday evening.

Wolves’ remaining international contingent have completed their duties, with Matt Doherty, Hee Chan Hwang and Jorgen Strand Larsen all making appearances off the bench recently.

South Korea beat Kuwait 4-0 to secure top spot in their World Cup qualifying group, having already booked their place in next summer’s tournament.

Hwang played the final seven minutes of the comfortable victory over the group’s bottom side, meaning South Korea finished the international period with six goals, zero conceded and six points.

Meanwhile, Norway further strengthened their chances of reaching next summer’s World Cup with a 1-0 win over Estonia. Strand Larsen played the final eight minutes off the bench as Norway made it 12 points from 12 in qualifying.

Finally, Doherty added another cap to his tally against Luxembourg. The defender started on the bench for the Republic of Ireland but was brought on after 76 minutes in the goalless draw.
