Internationals | Wolves players set for national team action

Bruno Lage will have 11 players missing from his first-team squad during the next week as they take part in international action.

Captain Conor Coady will hope to add to his five England caps when the Three Lions take on Hungary on Thursday (2nd September), Andorra on Sunday (5th September) and Poland next Wednesday (8th September).

England are aiming to reach the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which takes place next winter, and with three games gone in qualifying, the Three Lions are in a healthy position, sitting top of Group I on maximum points, after victories over San Marino, Albania and Poland back in March.

Also in world Cup qualifying this week is Adama Traore, who has once again been called up to the Spain squad for their matches against Sweden on Thursday, Georgia on Sunday and Kosovo on Wednesday, as they aim to maintain their place at the top of Group B.

The winger has six Spanish caps to his name and will be aiming to get on the pitch this week after making just a fleeting appearance at Euro 2020 a Spain reached the semi-finals.

Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Nelson Semedo have also been call-up to represent Portugal, with the right-back a late call-up as a replacement for the injured Leicester City man Ricardo Pereira. Francisco Trincao is also training as part of the Portugal squad.

The trio were all members of the national squad at Euro 2020, but they now turn their attention to World Cup qualifying, with the country sat top of Group A. Portugal face Republic of Ireland and Azerbaijan on Wednesday and Tuesday respectively, as well as a friendly with World Cup hosts Qatar sandwiched in between on Saturday.

Leander Dendoncker is also back in the Belgium squad, as the Red Devils look to continue their unbeaten record in World Cup qualifying, having taken two wins and draw from their opening Group E matches.

They will now prepare to travel to Estonia on Thursday, host Czech Republic on Sunday and head to Belarus next Wednesday.

Outside of Europe, Romain Saiss is also set for World Cup qualifying as the captain of Morocco, who face Sudan on Thursday before travelling to Guinea on Monday, while Ivory Coast head to Mozambique on Friday before hosting Cameroon on Monday.

New signing Hee Chan Hwang has also been called up for the South Korea squad as they are at the third round of World Cup qualifying and face their opening group stage matches at home against Iraq on Thursday and Lebanon on Tuesday.

As well as the four senior Portugal call-ups, Fabio Silva has earned a selection for his country’s under-21s as they play their first 2023 European Championship qualifying match against Belarus on Monday.

While Ki-Jana Hoever is in the Netherlands under-21 squad for their European Championship qualifier against Moldova on Tuesday.
