Mick McCarthy joins the Old Gold Club podcast

Championship-winning manager and current Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy is this week’s special guest on Wolves' official Old Gold Club podcast.

McCarthy, who was in charge of the side for almost six years, will become the 21st inductee when he joins regular podcast hosts Mikey Burrows and Chris Iwelumo on Wednesday evening’s episode.

The Barnsley-born Irish international will discuss transforming Wolves into a Premier League side after inheriting a depleted squad when he features on the Old Gold Club, sponsored by Wolverhampton Building Supplies.

The episode will be broadcast during a half hour Facebook and YouTube video tomorrow evening at 6pm, before an extended podcast is released on the official Wolves App, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and all other podcast apps.

While on the podcast, McCarthy talks about his six seasons at Molineux, including his ‘Merlin the Magician’ introduction to the club, changing his entire team for a game against Manchester United in December 2009, and what happened when he was relieved of his managerial role.

The 60-year-old, who won promotion to the Premier League with Wolves in 2009, also discusses bringing in Matt Doherty from Bohemians, why he made the decision to give the captain’s armband to Roger Johnson, and how he supported Terry Connor during his assistants' time in the managerial hot seat.

McCarthy’s episode of the Old Gold Club will be broadcast on FacebookYouTube  and Twitter from 6pm on Wednesday evening, while the full podcast will be available on all the regular channels afterwards.

The first 20 episodes of the podcast, where guests included Carl Ikeme, Kenny Hibbitt, David Kelly, Matt Jarvis, John Richards, George Elokobi, Steve Daley and Rob Edwards are also available to listen back on iTunes by clicking here or Spotify here.
