George Elokobi joins the Old Gold Club

Cult hero and Championship winning defender George Elokobi will be the latest former Wolves face to be inducted into the Old Gold Club as he appears on the popular podcast this week.

The Cameroonian, who joined Wolves from Colchester United in 2008, will be the fourteenth inductee to be interviewed about his time at the club by regular hosts Mikey Burrows and Chris Iwelumo.

A key member of the Wolves side which picked up the Championship trophy, Elokobi will talk about the title winning season during a half hour video on Facebook and YouTube - and, for the first time ever, on Twitter - before an extended podcast is released on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

As the latest inductee into Old Gold Club, sponsored by Wolverhampton Building Supplies, the 32-year-old will also discuss his six-year affiliation with the club.

Joining mid-way through the season before Wolves’ victorious Championship campaign – which marks it’s tenth anniversary this season – Elokobi became a regular member of Mick McCarthy’s side, making most of his 105 appearances in gold and black playing as a left back.

However, just four games into the title-winning run, Elokobi suffered a serious knee injury which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

He was reinstated into the team following promotion into the Premier League, scoring two goals in the top flight, with one of those coming in a 2-1 victory over Manchester United – although Elokobi claims to have scored both of Wolves’ goals, despite the winning strike being attributed to Kevin Doyle.

The bulky defender was a cult hero among the Molineux faithful and was a fan favourite on the terraces due to his bubbly personality, which shone through in his on-pitch performances.

The latest Old Gold Club will be broadcast on Facebook and YouTube from 6pm this evening, while the full podcast will be available on all the regular channels afterwards.

The first 13 episodes of the podcast with Carl Ikeme, Kenny Hibbitt, Tony Daley, Terry Connor, Scott Golbourne, Karl Henry, David Kelly, Ally Robertson, Jack Price, Matt Jarvis, Matt Murray, Don Goodman and John Richards are also available to listen back to by clicking here.
