Wolves Women rounded off their season with an entertaining 2-2 draw against TNS at a sunny Goodrich Sports Ground on Sunday afternoon.

The home side could have gone behind in the first minute, but for a good save from keeper Becky Thomas.

And Wolves took full advantage of Thomas's efforts in the seventh minute when a flick-on from Sophie Walker landed in the path of Amber Quick, pictured, who shot from just outside the area to open the scoring.

Thomas then made an excellent point-blank save in the Wolves goal just four minutes later before Abby Pope headed wide at the other end.

Chances were coming for both teams, with Natalie Morris, Dani Selmes and Pope all coming close, while Thomas had more saves to make, and Layla Salter put in an excellent tackle to stop a TNS attack.

But the visitors made their first breakthrough just before half time, when striker Abby Francis chipped the ball home to level the score.

The second half saw Wolves take the initiative again after just three minutes as Bavington's long-range shot was parried by the goalkeeper, only for Selmes to pounce from close range to put Wolves ahead for a second time.

Again, TNS pulled level, as Francis rounded keeper Thomas to slip the ball into an empty net and make it 2-2.

Chances came at both ends again, with substitute Sophie Richards unlucky not to score, and Quick almost getting her head on an excellent cross from Selmes.

Bavington and Hayley Packer were both close with long-range shots, while Wolves' defence was also pressed into action.

But despite all the end-to-end football, the game ended in a draw.

Manager James Astle said: "It was a typical end of season game. You could see the players were tired after a long season, and we still have three key injuries.

"That said, it could have gone either way at the end, and it was certainly a good entertaining game for the neutral observer.

"It felt weird playing a game after our end of season presentation night, but the bad weather in the winter meant our season was late finishing.

"The girls have got a good long break now.

"We start again in July with a pre-season tour, and we'll be full of optimism for the new season."

Meanwhile trials for Wolves Girls' Centre of Excellence will be held in June at the club's new state-of-the-art training facilities at Wolverhampton College.
