Wolves got in the best possible preparation for Wednesday's County Cup Final against Birmingham thanks to a convincing 5-1 win over Copsewood Coventry in the Midland Combination League.

Dani Selmes, pictured, wasted no time getting on the score sheet as she flicked the ball into the net from a Kirstie Bavington corner in the third minute.

Selmes was on target again just five minute later, but was foiled by the keeper.

Wolves were having the best of the play, with chances for Hayley Packer, Selmes and Sophie Richards, and at the other end, Wolves' keeper Becky Thomas had to make a couple of saves to keep the score at 1-0 at the break.

The second half was barely three minutes old when Wolves notched up their second goal.

Keeper Thomas's huge clearance caught Copsewood napping, and Richards latched onto the ball and beat the keeper with a fine finish.

Just a minute later, half time substitute Sophie Walker volleyed a Bavington pass into the back of the net to put Wolves 3-0 up.

In the 70th minute Wolves lost their captain Anna Perks after she turned her ankle, and was replaced by Natalie Widdal.

Packer was next to get on the scoresheet in the 77th minute, robbing the keeper who was trying to usher the ball out for a goal kick and making her way towards the empty net and tapping home for the fourth.

A lack of concentration in the Wolves' defence allowed the visitors a consolation goal nine minutes before the end, as Leona McCook thumped the ball past Thomas after a goalmouth scramble.

Undeterred, Wolves fought on, and with a minute to go, Walker was brought down in the box for a penalty as she was through on goal.

Selmes calmly side-footed the ball into the net for her second and Wolves' fifth.

Manager James Astle said: "It was a really good win going into a Cup Final, giving a lot of players a lot of confidence.

"It's the second time this season we've scored five, and again it's come from four different players.

"Natalie Morris had a great game, and in fairness at times there were even more chances to be had.

"We've had a couple of scares over the last few weeks through injuries, which today forced two changes, and captain Anna Perks will have a fitness test tomorrow before Wednesday's game.

"All in all a great performance all round, and we're ready for Wednesday."
