Wolves were well beaten by an in-form Rotherham side who stormed into a three-goal lead within the first quarter of an hour.

Rotherham's first goal came as Hayley Wood picked up the ball down Wolves' left, and having found herself one-on-one with young keeper Chelsea Dixon, duly put the ball past her to put the visitors ahead.

Just four minutes later Rotherham's Zuzana Pramukova looped the ball towards goal, and although Dixon got her fingertips to it, she could only parry it into the net.

Then in the 14th minute Wood notched up her second and Rotherham's third.

To their credit, Wolves didn't let their heads drop, and Amber Quick, Rebecca Large and Dani Selmes all saw their attempts saved by the Rotherham keeper.

Eventually Wolves' pressure paid off, and in the 43rd minute defender Natalie Widdal sent a shot soaring from 30 yards out to raise hopes for the home side before the break.

The second half saw Wolves continue to fight as manager James Astle made some changes.

Rotherham were up to the challenge though, with Pramukova causing Wolves all sorts of problems with her speed and agility.

They hit the post twice, shot over the bar, and had a goal disallowed for offside.

Wolves had their moments too. Kirstie Bavington sent a free kick flying into the box, but Anna Perks' volley looped over the bar.

Hayley Packer also came close from Perks' free kick, but Rotherham cleared for a corner.

In the 77th minute substitute Sophie Walker, pictured, returned after being out for two months due to an ankle injury, and acquitted herself well.

Wolves continued to look for a second goal to get back into the game, but were caught on the break, and Rotherham's Helen Lynskey lobbed the keeper to make it four.

Manager James Astle said: " After two good wins, it's a shame to put in one of our poorest performances of the season.

"There were a few choice words at half time and in fairness we came out stronger in the second half, but by then the damage was done.

"It was a difficult game for young Chelsea in goal.

"It was only her second senior start after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in her first appearance in a cup game at the start of the season.

"It was always going to be a big occasion for her, but with three defensive errors, it was a hard thing to come back from."

* Next Sunday 25th April sees Wolves travel to Nottingham side Radcliffe Olympic.
