Wolves met local rivals Sporting Club Albion for the second time in two weeks - this time in a league game - after a 2-1 win to knock them out of the County Cup last Sunday.

This week the spoils were shared in what turned out to be a well-fought and entertaining game, with Dani Selmes and Hayley Phillipowski both getting their names on the scoresheet again.

Early chances were quite even, with both sides going close and both keepers having saves to make. Wolves' best chance of the half came in the 31st minute when Sophie Richards' shot crashed onto the bar.

Wolves' keeper Becky Thomas, pictured, made a couple of good saves, while Wolves were denied again just before the break when Selmes' shot was well stopped by the Albion keeper, and the half finished goalless.

The second half started as the first had finished, with Wolves pressing, and Amber Quick being denied by the keeper. The home side started to turn the screw, and were rewarded in the 63rd minute when Selmes' superbly-placed strike beat the keeper to give Wolves the lead.

Wolves were having much of the play, and came close again as Anna Perks shot just over the bar, but in the 73rd minute a miscued clearance fell to the feet of Phillipowski, and she took advantage to level the score.

Wolves kept up the pressure, but couldn't find the winning goal, and the game ended all square.

Manager James Astle said: "It was another great spectacle of football, and the game was much like last week. I'm a little bit aggrieved that the goal we gave away was a mistake.

"I'll say once more Albion are the best footballing side we've seen here, and it was always going to be a wonder goal or a mistake which counted. The players knew they'd been in a game when they came off.

"So it's back to training tomorrow, preparing ourselves for a cup semi-final. We must be starting to go places - it's interesting to see that teams we've got to play in the next few weeks are coming to watch us!"
