Wolves Women exited the FA Cup in the first round at the hands of local rivals Sporting Club Albion on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors dominated play, and made it count with three goals, but for Wolves it was very much a case of a bad day at the office.
The first half saw
The only major chance of the half for Wolves arrived in the 22nd minute from a Hayley Packer corner. Anna Perks's header was cleared off the line and fell to Dani Selmes, but her shot went over the bar.
After a goalless first half Albion continued to press, and their perseverance paid off in the 52nd minute when Wolves' keeper Becky Thomas fumbled the ball from a Jess Lippiatt shot, and it trickled over the line to put the visitors ahead.
Wolves had a couple of efforts saved by Albion keeper Natalie Hall before Hayley Phillipowski put the visitors 2-0 up in the 71st minute.
Just two minutes later however Wolves were back in the game, as Selmes, pictured, latched on to a through ball from substitute Louise Roberts and beat Hall in the Albion goal to make it 2-1.
Hopes of a comeback were short-lived though, as just a minute later Albion restored their two goal advantage courtesy of a penalty despatched for her second goal by Phillipowski.
Wolves came back fighting with a couple of late chances, but it was too little too late, and they departed the FA Cup at the first hurdle.
Next Sunday sees them turn their attention to the Birmingham County Cup as they take on Withymoor Colts.
