Olympic Hero Helps Wolves Aid
Eleanor Simmonds, heroine of the Beijing Paralympics - winning 2 gold medals in the swimming events - was guest of honour at Molineux last weekend at the Wolves v Cardiff clash.
Ellie, who last week received her MBE from The Queen at Buckingham Palace, appeared on the pitch at half time to hand over a Wolves Aid cheque for £6,000 to athletes from Wolverhampton Special Olympics who will be taking part in the World Games in Leicester in July this year.
Fourteen year old Ellie was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in December to mark her triumphs in Beijing. Although she lives in Walsall she has taken Wolves to her heart.
Wolves Vice President, Rachael Heyhoe Flint, commented: "All the athletes from Wolverhampton Special Olympics, Ellie and her coach Billy Pye did a lap of honour at the game and it was very heart-warming to see the adulation from all the fans.
"Ellie trains during the week in Swansea but, with her home being in Walsall, she is still very keen to offer her support to Wolves.
"Ellie is a terrific role model, especially for those with disabilities in and around the city, so it was a privilege to welcome her to Molineux."
Wolves Aid is now a part of Wolves Community Trust - Wolves' official charitable trust - which provides community schemes based around Health, Education, Social Inclusion, Community Sports and now, via Wolves Aid, community donations.
