Fulham 2 (Johnson 59, Dunleavy-OG 84)

Despite fielding a strong side and dominating possession for much of the game, Wolves reserves lost out to a pair of breakaway Fulham goals in a game played at a blustery Molineux.

Michael Kightly fired over the far angle after he had run onto a throw from Stefan Maierhofer. The Austrian then headed into the arms of Fulham keeper David Stockdale after connecting with a deep cross from George Elokobi.

Nathan Rooney, the only player in the home starting line-up with no Premier League experience, was made captain for the game and after winning a 50/50 tackle he found Kightly who, in turn, played Andy Keogh in on goal.

The striker ran into the Fulham box but Stockdale came out on top of a one against one contest by blocking Keogh's shot at close range.

Keogh then used his strength to shrug off Bjorn Riise, who looked to be pulling him back, before hitting a 22-yard drive that forced a diving save from Stockdale.

Within a minute Kightly hit a cross from the right and Maierhofer got in front of Josh Pritchard to power a header narrowly wide of the target.

In the 33rd minute Maierhofer went closer still. This time Keogh supplied the centre and Stockdale made a fine save as he touched the ball onto the bar.

Maierhofer did roll the ball into the net after Stockdale had blocked from Keogh but the flag was up for offside.

It was against the run of play that Fulham almost moved ahead five minutes before the break. Michael Uwezu pulled the ball back to Alex Smith whose shot was blocked by Rooney. The loose ball ran to Eddie Johnson and his effort was pushed out by Marcus Hahnemann.

Stockdale was soon back in action and he made another excellent save, this time to turn aside Nenad Milijaš's dipping, 30-yard free-kick.

Half-Time; Wolves 0 Fulham 0

Kevin Foley opened up the visiting defence after taking a return pass from Rooney but on-one could get a touch to his low cross that drifted wide of the far post.

Johnson then beat two men inside the Wolves area before shooting over the bar but the striker was in the right place to give Fulham the lead in the 59th minute.

Danny Hoesen looked offside as he chased down a long ball out of defence. He was left with just Hahnemann to beat and although the keeper did well to block the ball, it ran to Johnson who tapped it into the empty net.

Keogh had a chance to level things just two minute later but in attempting to lift the ball over Stockdale his effort went high over the bar.

Play went straight to the other end where Hoesen fired wide of the far post with only Hahnemann to beat.

Stephen Ward was replaced by John Dunleavy after 63 minutes of his comeback game.

Joe Anderson cleared a dangerous low cross from Keogh from in front of the line and then Stockdale had a stroke of luck when Keogh challenged him for a backpass.

The ball ricocheted towards the goal but it lacked pace allowing the keeper to scramble up and claim it.

Stockdale then made an athletic save to turn over a piledriver from Kightly.

Any comeback hopes Wolves had were dashed six minutes from the end when Dunleavy, stationed at the near post, deflected Marcello Trotta's cross home with his chest.
