Wolves 2 (Elokobi 2, Halford 50)
Birmingham City 0
Wolves first Barclays Premier Reserve League victory of the campaign seemed to have been soured a little when comeback keeper Matt Murray left the field midway through the first-half.
But thankfully it was confirmed after the game that the unlucky custodian had just felt some slight discomfort and that his early departure was no more than a precaution.
Wolves had made a perfect start to the game going ahead in the second minute when George Elokobi powerfully headed in from Scott Malone's corner.
Five minutes later Ashley Hemmings almost grabbed a second after he had run onto James Spray's through ball.
Blues keeper Colin Doyle dived at Hemmings's feet and got a hand to the young striker's shot taking the sting out of it and allowing Gregory Vignal to clear from in front of the line.
Elokobi was inches away after a Vignal foul on Greg Halford on the right wing. Malone fired over the free-kick and Elokobi bulleted a stooping header just the wrong side of the post.
Franck Queudrue had Murray backpedaling to field a punt from inside the centre circle and shortly afterwards the keeper signaled to the bench that he had a problem.
After treatment he carried on for a couple of minutes before he left the field to sympathetic applause and was replaced by Academy keeper Daniel East.
Matt Jarvis drove a low centre across the face of the City goal and Kyle Bennett fired over from the edge of the box as Wolves continued to press.
A great run by Jarvis saw him outpace two men before pulling back to Malone whose powerful drive was blocked by a defender.
Half-Time: Wolves 1 Blues 0
Five minutes after the restart the goal Wolves had been threatening finally arrived. Jarvis slipped a pass to Spray whose shot crashed against the foot of the post. But Halford quickly seized on the loose ball driving it home from eight-yards.
Malone and Jarvis were causing all sorts of problems on the left and, when the pair combined again, Doyle was forced into a near post save by Malone.
Doyle then had to dive low to gather an angled effort from Halford before Spray went into the book with the referee indicating persistent fouling. Giovanny Espinoza soon joined Spray in the book after a late challenge on the Wolves' striker.
Spray was in the thick of things and he ended a surging run with a shot that was a yard over the angle.
The game erupted briefly in the 73rd minute after Jordon Mutch clattered into Jarvis. Players from both sides were involved in a bout of pushing and shoving and, when order was restored, the Blues man was shown the yellow card.
Queudrue wasn't far off with a drive from the edge of the box and Wolves could have had a third but Espinoza kicked Jarvis's shot off the line with Spray's follow up being blocked by a defender.
Hemmings was just wide following a good build up involving Halford and Jarvis and then Doyle just beat Jarvis to Spray's short through ball.
In stoppage time East made a tremendous save to deny Robin Shroot a consolation goal.
