Tamworth 1 (Wylde 86)
Wolves 2 (Mendez-Laing 5, Hemmings 73)
Wolves are through to the second round of the Birmingham Senior Cup and an away tie at Tipton Town following a 2-1 victory over Tamworth at The Lamb.
Steve Weaver took charge of a very young Wanderers side for the game against the Conference side.
Neil Mackenzie's early shot was comfortably saved by Daniel East before Wolves moved into a fifth minute lead. Nathan Rooney slipped the ball to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing whose first shot was blocked by Danny Alcock.
But the keeper stood no chance as Mendez-Laing quickly latched onto the rebound to bundle the ball home.
Tamworth tried to hit back and after East had saved Richard Tait's shot, Bradley Prichard fired over the bar.
Ashley Hemmings headed wide after a well delivered cross from James Spray before Simon Russell twice went close for Tamworth in the space of a minute.
East saved his first effort - an overhead kick - and he was just wide when he connected following a free-kick.
Russell then set up a chance for Gokhan Ulker but his header was wide of the mark.
Half-Time: Tamworth 0 Wolves 1
Five minutes after the restart, East threw his body in the way of a goalbound drive from Ulker, whilst for Wolves Spray shot wide after he had run onto a Rooney pass.
Tamworth, and in particular Prichard, was unlucky when he hit the post with a low shot and when play switched to the other end a few seconds later, Hemmings was just wide with a shot from just inside the box.
Kyle Bennett hit a low cross that sped through the heart of the Tamworth area with no-one able to get a touch, and then the Molineux youngster cut in from the left and fired over the bar.
In the 73rd minute, Hemmings dispossessed Michael Wylde and advanced to the edge of the area before slotting the ball past Alcock.
Bennett had a low shot saved and Rooney was too high with a long range effort before Tamworth pulled one back with four minutes remaining, Wylde heading home from a Prichard corner.
The home team went all out in search of a late equaliser but the Woves defence held firm and East had no real alarms as the seconds ticked away.
