Although joining Wolves for an undisclosed fee in June, 2009, Wolves confirmed that Kevin Doyle had become the club's record signing.

The Irish striker had become hot property during the summer, but chose Wolves above a host of other clubs as he made the move from Reading.

Having shot to prominence in the Eircom League with Cork City, Doyle moved to England to join the Royals in 2005.

He immediately settled to life in the Championship, helping Reading to promotion and then notching 13 goals in the top division in 2006/07.

The striker, who also notched 18 goals in the Championship for Reading in the 2008/09 campaign, as well as being named the Football Association of Ireland's Player of the Year, is a regular in the Republic of Ireland starting line-up.

He made his debut on the pre-season tour of Australia before undergoing a hernia operation before the start of the season.

It wasn't long however before he started to make a major influence at Wolves, scoring his first goal for the club in the win against Fulham in September, 2009.

And it proved to an excellent first season at Wolves for Doyle, who maintained an extremely high standard of performance throughout the campaign including most of the second half spent operating as a lone frontman.

His total of nine goals from 33 Barclays Premier League starts made him Wolves' top scorer, and he also secured the Player's Player of the Season award as well as finishing second in the fans' vote.

Although missing bits of the start and end of the 2010/11 season with injury, Doyle was once again a hugely influential figure for Wolves, scoring eight goals from 31 appearances in all competitions.

He once again finished as runner-up in the Fans Vote for Player of the Season in a campaign in which he also continued to excel for the Republic of Ireland.
