Steven Fletcher signed a four year contract when joining Wolves in the summer of 2010, with the club also possessing an option for a fifth year.

The Scottish international striker's fee remained undisclosed in accordance with club policy but Wolves confirmed it matched the record outlay for Kevin Doyle in the summer of 2009.

Fletcher was born in Shrewsbury but his mother is Scottish and he moved North of the Border as a schoolboy.

He came through the ranks with Hibernian, scoring 52 goals in 190 appearances before becoming Burnley's record signing in 2009.

He made a positive impression at Barclays Premier League level despite the Clarets' relegation, his 12 goals adding the gloss to an impressive all-round game and he ended the season with the Players' Player of the Year award.

Fletcher, who still had three years of his contract remaining at Turf Moor, has also stood out at international level in his formative years.

He was top scorer with nine goals from nine games when Scotland-under-19s reached the final of their European Championships before losing to Spain in 2006, and went on to be Scottish Writers Young Player of the Year two years later.

Fletcher, who has struck one senior international goal from seven appearances, has also proved himself the man for the big occasion, notching a brace as Hibernian beat Kilmarnock 5-1 in the League Cup Final of 2007.

He will now be hoping to step up his Scottish international claims in much the same way as new team-mate Christophe Berra, and clearly the two know each other's games well having not only faced each other last season but also in Edinburgh derbies of the past.

Ironically he has also been watched by the entire Wolves squad on one occasion!

Fletcher played for Hibs in their summer friendly with Barcelona at Murrayfield in 2007, which was watched by Mick McCarthy and his players during their pre-season tour of Scotland.

Injury, illness and Wolves' playing with only one centre forward limited Fletcher's impact in the first half of his first Molineux season, but patience proved a virtue as his class told over the second half.

Indeed the Scotsman eventually became the first Wolves striker since John Richards in 1980/81 to score 10 goals in a top flight season, the tally coming from 15 league starts and a further 14 outings from the bench.
