Karl Henry was delighted to join his home town club during the week that led to the start of the 2006/07 campaign.

The midfielder was out of contract at Stoke City but, as he was under 24, a compensation figure was agreed with Wolves paying the Potteries team £100,000 plus extras depending on appearances.

After signing the three-year deal, Henry made his full debut at Plymouth on the opening day of the season. He started with Stoke as a trainee in 1999 and, apart from a five month loan to Cheltenham Town in 2004, he remained with the north Staffordshire club until his switch to Wolves.

Henry was appointed team captain in December, 2006, until Jody Craddock recovered from injury.

Playing at both right-back and in the centre of midfield, his influential first season came to a dramatic end when suffering a potential life-threatening injury in the game against Luton. Henry bruised his spleen and was forced to sit out the remainder of the 2006/07 campaign.

He made 42 appearances in the 2007/08 season but also suffered from an injury, the 3-2 win at Charlton in March in which he struck a dramatic last-gasp winner proving his last appearance until the final day of the season.

Henry once again took on the captaincy at the start of the 2008/09 season after injury to Jody, and was an integral part of the team which made an impressive start to the season.

Thanks to his success, Henry signed a new contract in October, 2007, keeping him at Molineux until 2011.

The all-conquering 2008/09 campaign was another success story for Henry, who was again captain for the majority after injury to Jody Craddock.

In total he made 43 league appearances, and signed a new four-year contract shortly after the close of the season.

He started the 2009/10 campaign as a regular in the Wolves engine room, once again captaining the side and playing a key role over the season by maintaining an impressive level of consistency.
