Boss Mick McCarthy admitted he was delighted to see long-time talisman Kevin Doyle come off the bench to such positive effect for Wolves against Queens Park Rangers.
Doyle set up Matt Jarvis for his equaliser within a minute of coming on and then struck a clinical 71st minute winner having found himself out of the team in recent weeks.
The boss remains committed to Doyle's undoubted talents and was thrilled to see him back on the goalscoring trail to help Wolves to their 2-1 victory.
"I can't remember who it was but I heard one of the top tennis players saying they are able to turn it on when they want to," said Mick.
"They know that the class is always there.
"It's not always that easy but the ability to play is always there and sometimes they are just below par.
"And I think that's what Doyler has been.
"He was fabulous again today - he looked strong and powerful and skilful and got his goal and I'm delighted for him because he's been having it tough.
"It was lovely to see him play well.
"We gave him a license to roam and he looked like the top player that he is."
Not only will the victory galvanise Doyle, but hopefully the entire squad which had been waiting since early-December for a Barclays Premier League success.
"We've won another game and got three more points - it's another one ticked off," said Mick.
"I don't get carried away we've won a game.
"We've got West Brom next week which is a huge game for us.
"It helps though of course it does - we all come away from this feeling a damned side better than we did on Tuesday."
