Kevin Doyle is confident a double-header of internationals will have seen him restored to full sharpness as Wolves bid to blunt Fulham's unbeaten record at Craven Cottage tomorrow.
Boss Mick McCarthy revealed earlier this week that he felt the joint record signing was now returning to some of the inspirational form of last season after shaking off pre-season hamstring and calf niggles.
And the man himself concurs with that view, three hours of football with the Republic of Ireland - including a stunning long-range strike against Andorra - whetting the appetite for the return to club football.
"I needed the games really," Doyle admits.
"After missing the last bit of pre-season and the first game of the season the more action I could get the better.
"Those two games should bring me on a fair bit.
"I enjoyed the last two games and hopefully can take that into tomorrow's game with Wolves.
"We've been playing as well as a team for the first few games of the season and hopefully can keep it going."
In an ideal world Doyle would love to add to a first competitive international goal in almost 12 months with a first for Wolves this season at Craven Cottage.
It's a tough ask, but won't be for any lack of trying not least with the returning-to-fitness Steven Fletcher and new loan signing Marcus Bent lurking with intent on the sidelines.
"It would be nice to get a goal but it won't be easy against Fulham away from home," added Doyle.
"We had a difficult game there last year and I've always experienced difficult games at Fulham.
"It's important to get a first win of the season so there might be a little bit of pressure on Fulham to get that.
"We got our first out of the way on the opening day which was nice and little things like that can often prey on your mind.
"They'll want to be doing that and getting the win.
"It's a good thing we've got some good strikers here now with Fletch fit and Marcus coming in.
"That competition always keeps you on your toes and means it's never easy to keep your place.
"It just shows how the club is bigger and better and any club that wants to do well needs that competition."
