Wolves Renewing Hostilities With Notts County

Posted on: Thu 09 Sep 2010

As fellow founder members of the Football League back in 1888, Wolves and forthcoming Carling Cup opponents Notts County have done battle on plenty of occasions down the years.

But not for almost 15 years since a goal from Steve Bull secured a 1-0 win against the Magpies in December, 1995.

The Third Round tie with County has been fixed for Tuesday, September 21 (kick off 7.45pm), bringing back memories of a particularly memorable night - also involving Bull - in the Sherpa Van Trophy.

It was back in 1988 that Wolves, on the verge of the Fourth Division title, were also on the brink of a Wembley appearance in the Sherpa Van Final.

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the semi final at Notts County, it all made for a tense Molineux night in front of 8,413.

But there was little need for such tension as two more goals from Bull, and a third from former County midfielder Keith Downing, earned Wolves a comfortable victory and the chance to go on and lift the trophy by beating Burnley in front of over 80,000 at the Twin Towers.

The forthcoming Third Round tie may not yet have the same prize at stake, but the Carling Cup does offer a Wembley final at its conclusion and victory for Wolves against Notts County would take them into the last 16 for the first time since being beaten by Arsenal in 2003.

And there are discounted tickets on offer for fans wishing to play their part in trying to help Wolves make further progress in the competition they won in 1980.

Tickets for the clash are now on sale online, via Telesales on 0871 222 1877, and in person at the Ticket Office.

The Notts County supporters will be occupying the lower tier of the Steve Bull Stand and the Steve Bull Upper Tier will be closed.

But Wolves' Adult Season Ticket Holders can snap up a ticket anywhere else in the ground for £10, while non Season Ticket Holders can purchase an adult ticket for £12.

Seniors and under-17 Season Ticket Holders can purchase tickets for £5 (£7 for non Season Ticket Holders) while for under-12 Season Ticket Holders and Young Wolves members the price is £2.

Juniors Under-12 who are not Season Ticket Holders can purchase tickets for £5.

Meanwhile adult and senior season ticket holders can also purchase up to two additional junior tickets at just £2 each.

Ticket discounts for Season Ticket Holders, including the purchase of additional junior tickets and Young Wolves tickets, are only available if tickets are booked in advance from the Ticket Office before 12 noon on the day of the game - Tuesday, September 21st.

Name, address, date of birth and email address information will be required for any supporters without a unique supporter number when booking tickets.

Meanwhile Season Ticket Holders enrolled in the Cup Tie Scheme (CTS) will automatically receive their tickets in the post with Steve Bull Stand Season Ticket Holders allocated the best available seat in the Billy Wright Upper.

Season Ticket holders who have NOT joined the CTS scheme will NOT have their seats reserved.
