Double Injury Boost For Wolves

Posted on: Tue 07 Sep 2010

Wolves have received a potential double boost with the news that Steven Fletcher and Jelle Van Damme have a good chance of being available for Saturday's return to Barclays Premier League action at Fulham.

The pair were both back at Compton yesterday after missing out on featuring for Scotland and Belgium respectively on Friday night and being released from the second Euro 2012 qualifiers scheduled for this evening.

Both have received treatment on injuries initially sustained on the opening day of the season against Stoke - Van Damme an ankle and Fletcher a badly bruised foot.

They did feature in Wolves' last league fixture against Newcastle and should be available for the weekend after their respective countries decided not to take any risks.

"Fletch came back because Scotland didn't want to inject the injury and take any risks which is good for us really," said boss Mick McCarthy.

"He trained with us yesterday and came back because his foot was sore but there's nothing badly wrong, it's just bruising.

"If he needs an injection to play he will so he should be fine and ok for Saturday.

"There are certainly no problems with the SFA - we sent him with a view to playing but they didn't want to risk him.

"We'll try and get him right for Saturday."

On Van Damme's situation, the boss added:  "Jelle is here being looked after by the medical team.

"He's not really training, just getting his physio ahead of getting back running and back so he's ok.

"It's still the ankle which he originally against Stoke.

"I'm hoping he'll be alright."

There is also positive news on defender Steven Mouyokolo, yet to figure for the first team after suffering ankle and hamstring injuries in quick succession.

The summer signing is back training again and ready to step up his recovery with some reserve team football.

"Steven has trained and is fine," added the boss.

"He just needs to do more training now and play some reserve games.

"It's unfortunate that when you go to a new club this sometimes happens - but he's alright and he trained fully yesterday."

Of the longer term injuries the boss admits the current target for Stephen Hunt is to be fit to come in after the next international break next month.

"We've got five games coming up with the Carling Cup tie and then we get another two-week break," said Mick.

"He's probably looking at being fit sooner rather than later, but if we get him back after that two-week break and if he was fit to start that would be fantastic.

"That's what we're probably aiming at."
