Bent's Belief

Posted on: Thu 02 Sep 2010

Marcus Bent is preparing to join the battle for striking places at Molineux still carrying the belief he can do the business in the Barclays Premier League.

The 32-year-old is clearly  buoyed by his fresh chance at life in the top flight having joined Wolves' 25-man squad after moving on loan from Birmingham until January 4.

Well aware of the competition for places in a striking department packed with quality, Bent is hoping to bring his previous Premier League experience to the table while also learning from the others already in Mick McCarthy's squad.

"Once you stop believing in yourself you might as well hang up your boots," he said.

"As a footballer you try and push yourself every day to achieve more and more.

"I'll never stop learning.

"I might be one of the older members of the squad here but I can still get better.

"I am sure the boys will teach me some stuff and hopefully I can teach them some stuff.

"We're all a team working in the same direction and hopefully the end result will be picking up results on a Saturday.

"I know a few of the other lads from playing against them.

"I'm fortunate that Mick thought of me and am ready to work as hard as I can and help the team as much as possible."

Bent has already bought in to the concept that for a club like Wolves, survival is always the initial requirement heading into a top flight season.

But he also believes there's no harm in trying to aim higher if survival is assured.

"You have to be realistic and of course staying in the division is the main priority," he said.

"But at the same time, when you're going into the second season there's also nothing wrong with striving for more and trying to be better.

"We're not a top four club, of course we're not, but you can always try and aim high.

"It's a tough division but there is some good players here who have already picked up some good results this season."
