Doyle's Delight

Posted on: Mon 30 Aug 2010

Kevin Doyle today admitted his "delight" for strike partner Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who has come straight out of the traps this season with two goals in three Barclays Premier League games.

That levels Ebanks-Blake's tally for the entire season, with his chances limited in part by Doyle's hugely impressive campaign particularly when Wolves switched to one up front midway through the campaign.

Doyle knows what it's like to be a striker trying to find goals, not to mention the need to convert a high percentage of chances in the top flight.

"I am delighted for Sylvan," says last season's top scorer.

"It is not easy as a striker because it doesn't matter how hard you work, it doesn't guarantee you anything.

"It is not like he is playing for a Man United or an Arsenal who at times can have 10 or 15 chances a game.

"You are just hoping for one or two chances at most in a game so you have to take them when you do.

"So it is a great start to the season for him and he will be delighted."

Doyle is relishing the competition for places up front which saw his fellow joint record signing Steven Fletcher on the bench on Saturday after recovering from injury.

Meanwhile after being one of the more bizarre of 12 bookings against Newcastle at the weekend, the Irish international admits it was a "tough game to referee" given its fiercely competitive nature.

"It was one of the liveliest I have been involved in in terms of tackles," he said.

"The amount of free-kicks and tackles going on it was pretty tough.

"I don't think it was a dirty game but there were a lot of bookings and I suppose it was a tough one to referee to be fair."

Doyle is now among the massed ranks of Wolves players to have departed on international duty.

The striker and Kevin Foley are in the Republic of Ireland squad for the first two Euro 2012 qualifiers in Armenia on Friday and home to Andorra on Tuesday.
