Boss Mick McCarthy tonight confirmed that striker Andy Keogh is to join Cardiff on a season-long loan.

Keogh, one of the boss's most successful signings after joining Wolves from Scunthorpe in January, 2007, will link up with a strong ex-Molineux influence with the Bluebirds, including of course boss Dave Jones.

"It's a racing certainty that Andy will be going to Cardiff," Mick said after tonight's Carling Cup victory over Southend.

"He didn't want to be cup tied and Cardiff didn't want him to be cup tied and it was a chance for us to give Ashley Hemmings a game.

"Andy has been fabulous here both for me and this football club.

"It's a good move for him to go to Cardiff and good luck to him.

"He wants to play football and doesn't want to be fourth in line here which I can fully understand.

"It was my decision to let him go but he goes with our best wishes and warmest regards."

Keogh has made 88 starts in Wolves colours and a further 41 appearances from the bench, scoring 23 goals.

He helped the club to the play-offs in his first half-season at Molineux, and played a key role in the Championship-winning campaign, perhaps notably with the crucial late winner at Derby and then by setting up the promotion clinching goal for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake on a memorable afternoon against Queens Park Rangers.

He also nodded home an historic goal in Wolves' first away game last season at Wigan, sealing the club's first ever away win in the Barclays Premier League.
