Mick McCarthy admits he has no idea what to expect when it comes to the so-called "Second Season Syndrome" in the Barclays Premier League.
The boss hasn't had one before!
But what he knows is that the next ten months will prove just as challenging as last season, if not more so, hence why he is keeping everything on the ground despite the bright start in beating Stoke in the campaign's curtain-raiser on Saturday.
"I haven't got a clue what to expect," says Mick.
"Everyone thinks I'm trying to be smart but I'm not - I've never had a second season before!
"What I do know is that we're going to have to show all the qualities we had last season.
"We need to be solid and hard to beat to have a base we can build from.
"And being professional and organised, all those horrible words which people seem to hate about football.
"But if we lose them and suddenly think we can survive because we're the best football team? It's not going to happen."
And when it comes into any increased expectations given Wolves survived last season, the boss insists aiming for exactly the same objective again is the right way to go about things given the unforgiving nature of one of the toughest leagues in world football.
He added: "I did an interview where I said I'd gladly take 15th again.
"And people tried to drum that up to say that wasn't right but most people actually thought, 'well actually it is'.
"I think a lot of Wolves fans would be happy with that.
"It's my very honest and pragmatic nature but of course I'd like to finish higher.
"But would I take 15th? Dead right I would.
"And let me tell you, go and ask a lot of the others and they would take 15th as well.
"We all want to do better but it's tough.
"I said to the lads at half time on Saturday that this league can be so unforgiving.
"It punishes you, and if you don't do things right you can end up with a few good hidings and all of a sudden would be taking 17th with both hands.
"So let's be realistic about it."
