Jez Moxey has moved to clarify the contract situation over midfielder David Jones explaining that Wolves are not trying to "cash in" on the player.
Jez revealed yesterday that the club and Jones have been unable to reach agreement over an extension to his current deal, which has 12 months to run, but that relations remain cordial and the midfielder is firmly in boss Mick McCarthy's plans.
Jones himself remains fully focused on having another good season at Molineux, and Jez has confirmed that it's an issue which can be revisited in the future.
"We're not ruling anything out regarding David's situation," says Jez.
"Just because we haven't agreed a deal now doesn't mean to say we won't reach agreement at some point in the future.
"The discussions have been amicable and it's a matter we can re-visit again.
"Look what happened at Blackburn when Morten Gamst Pedersen was out of contract earlier this summer - he signed a new four-year deal despite being a free agent at the time.
"Both parties are relaxed with the situation and if we stay in the Premier League and David has a good season, then we will act accordingly.
"I must stress, this is not about trying to 'cash in' on a player who may leave for nothing next May.
"If it comes to the end of the season and we haven't been able to reach agreement with David after he's served us well over three years, helped us to promotion and helped us settle in the Premier League, then so be it, he will walk away for nothing.
"However, whatever happens, we are confident David will continue to serve us to the best of his ability and he will remain in the manager's selection plans this season."
