Jones Talks Update

Posted on: Wed 11 Aug 2010

Wolves CEO Jez Moxey today revealed that the club and midfielder David Jones have been unable to reach an agreement about a contract extension.

However, Jez insists that both parties remain "relaxed" about the situation and he fully expects the midfielder to remain a key part of Mick McCarthy's plans for the new Barclays Premier League campaign.

It was towards the end of last season that the club were keen to finalise a new deal with Jones, whose current three-year agreement has 12 months left to run.

That deal has not materialised but ahead of any further negotiations Jez is confident the former England-under-21 international will be as committed as ever to contributing to Wolves' fortunes next season.

"We've had a number of amicable discussions over the summer about extending David's contract but we have been unable to reach a satisfactory agreement," Jez explained.

"Both sides are relaxed about the situation and remain open minded about the future.

"David is committed to his role in helping the team do as well as possible this season, hopefully building on last season's successful campaign, and will continue to give his all for to the cause.

"Likewise, the Club is committed to David as a player and, subject to the manager's view on team selections, we fully expect him to feature in the team, just as he did last season."

Jones also insists it will have no bearing on his performances and that his focus remains firmly on the big kick-off against Stoke on Saturday.

He added:  "The conversations with the club have been amicable and although we have yet to reach an agreement, I'm really excited for the new Premier League season, helping the club build on last year's success and will continue to give 100% as always."

Jones has made 61 appearances for Wolves and scored six goals since arriving from Derby during the summer of 2008.

A former Manchester United trainee, he suffered from a knee injury at the start of last season but came back strongly in the second half of the campaign as Wolves clinched Premier League survival with two games to spare.

There are still a very limited number of hospitality tickets for Saturday's game wit Stoke City available for from £100 plus VAT.  Click HERE for for further details.
