Henry's Home Comforts

Posted on: Fri 06 Aug 2010

Karl Henry has targeted the need for a few more home comforts this season as Wolves seek to establish themselves in their second season in the Barclays Premier League.

Wolves only picked up marginally more points at Molineux than on the road last season - 21 compared to 17 - and as they prepare for their only home friendly against Athletic Bilboa on Saturday Henry believes that home record has to improve.

"We know we need to improve our home form next season and will be keen to get off to a good start in that respect," says Henry.

"Our away form was good and we produced some good wins and draws on our travels.

"But it would be nice to pick up some more points at home.

"We did lose a few games we were disappointed to lose at Molineux and will be looking to do better than that next season.

"In that respect we probably also need to score more goals than we did last season.

"The arrival of Steven Fletcher will certainly help in that respect as he's shown he can get goals in the division and will add something to our attacking options."

Having surveyed the fixture list Henry looks at the first two visitors to Molineux in Stoke and Newcastle as games in which Wolves should have a chance of picking up points.

Equally however, he knows those teams will be saying exactly the same thing in reverse.

"I think starting off at home to Stoke is a game we would take," he says.

"They will be thinking exactly the same about playing us but it's one we would see is winnable.

"If we are looking to repeat what we did last season and survive in the Premier League they are games that we have to take something from.

"So I think it could have been a lot worse.

"You look at those first few games and think we can get some points but we probably said the same thing last year.

"Newcastle at home is another one you'd think we could get something from but they are a good side and will be coming back into the division desperate to do what we did last year and survive.

"Make no bones about it, the games will all be tough as they always are but if we are going to do what we did last year then we will be looking to get points on the board."

With the big kick-off now just nine days away, a couple of dates on the fixture list will continue to loom large for many among the Wolves' support.

And they are the returns of the Black Country Derby with West Bromwich Albion, the first in the top flight for almost 30 years.

"We are all aware of the significance of the Albion games and I've been involved in several since I came to Wolves," adds Henry.

"They are always big occasions with great atmospheres and the first one in the Premier League will no doubt be exactly the same.

"They are games to look forward to but we've also got a lot more to think about before we get to there!"
