Boss's Flexible Friends
Being able to operate with a 4-4-2 formation or a 4-3-3 is a variety the boss would like to have in the locker of his team next season - having utilised both during the 2009/10 campaign.
And Wolves used both formations during the 90 minutes in Belgium on Saturday night, switching during the second half to positive effect as they chalked up a third successive pre-season success.
Mick explained: "We played 4-4-2 in the first and the second half but we conceded a goal and they were getting on top of the game.
"Terry (Connor) said 'do you think we could go 4-3-3?' to get back into the game and to add more stability to us, and we did.
"What was nice was the adaptability of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Kevin Doyle, Andy Keogh and Adlene Guedioura.
"They all just slotted into position and they made us very hard to break down.
"They were very disciplined and they did their jobs whereas last season I might have had to change people to do it."
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has looked particularly keen to impress during pre-season as he bids to shrug aside what by his own admission was a disappointing season last time out.
The arrival of Steven Fletcher has intensified the scrap for places up front, but Ebanks-Blake's impact in the second half as he moved to the right hand side following the change in tactics.
"Sylvan was terrific - he just came and occupied that right hand side and did it well," said Mick.
"He's come back looking very sharp and very fit.
"He's working hard at it and he knows that by his own standards, last season was a poor one.
"He looks like he wants to rectify that, which is great for me.
"It means we've got great competition in there and it's a nice problem for me to have."
