A Fresh Start

Posted on: Fri 16 Jul 2010

Dave Edwards is hoping for a fresh start ahead of the new campaign after mid-season injury interrupted his promising Barclays Premier League bow.

Edwards' ankle injury at Tottenham last December came at a time when he was making an impact for Wolves in the top flight, and it wasn't until April he was able to return making five further appearances before the end of the season.

The Welsh international is now confident he can give a good account of himself in what is going to be an intense battle for places.

"I was out for four months last season and I think I made 16 starts which was really good considering the injury," said Edwards.

"I've just got to forget last season and start afresh.

"When I came back from the injury last season, I felt I wasn't quite back to how I was playing before I got injured.

"But I feel with the rest from the summer break that nothing ever happened to me.

"In training I can feel myself getting to be as good as I was last season.

"If I can continue that, then hopefully I can stay injury-free and play to the best of my ability.

"Towards the end of last season, I didn't feel I was doing that because of coming back from the ankle injury.

"But there are no excuses now and I feel confident I can get back into the team."

Edwards is currently with the Wolves squad in Ireland having just become a Dad for the first time, son Jack seeing the midfielder join the ranks of Molineux fatherhood!

Once the football starts again, he knows he will have to stay at the top of his game to keep his place in the side.

He added:  "I didn't start last season but before my injury I was playing every week and I think a lot of people looking on wouldn't have thought that was going to happen with the type of players brought in such as Nenad Milijaš with great experience.

"So it's up to me to work hard and play to the best of my ability in training and in the friendlies to make sure I'm the squad and around the gaffer's thinking for his team selection.

"I'm confident I can do that because I've done it in the past year after year, then hopefully I can get into the team and have a successful season."
