Milijas Involved As Serbia Lose

Posted on: Sun 30 May 2010

Nenad Milijaš started for Serbia in their World Cup warm-up with fellow qualifiers New Zealand but it was the Kiwis who emerged victorious with a 1-0 win.

The team managed by former Wolves defender Ricki Herbert (click here for previous interview with Herbert) went away with a morale-boosting victory from the friendly in Austria thanks to Shane Smeltz's first half goal.

Milijaš, pictured here challenging New Zealand's West Bromwich Albion striker Chris Wood, played for the first 45 minutes of the game.

The friendly was marred by crowd problems involving Serbian fans in the second half which saw their captain Nemanja Vidic having to take to the microphone to calm things down.

Serbia's final warm-up ahead of South Africa is against Poland on Wednesday.

Elsewhere keeper Marcus Hahnemann was an unused substitute as the USA continued their preparations for the World Cup - and an opening game with England - with a 2-1 win over Turkey in Philadelphia.

The Americans next face Australia in friendly action on Saturday by which time they will be in South Africa.
