Jones: We Can Be Competitive

Posted on: Sat 22 May 2010

Wolves midfielder David Jones is confident the club will prove as competitive as their rivals in the transfer market this summer.

With Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion both returning to the Barclays Premier League at the first attempt, and plenty of other established top flight clubs also in the hunt for new talent, it promises to be the usual intense scramble for the same group of players.

But Jones is hopeful Wolves can certainly stand their ground when it comes to attracting top players.

"Newcastle are a big club and they will have a lot of pull and people will want to go there and West Brom have experience of the Premier League in recent years," he said.

"But players will find Wolves an attractive place to come too because historically, we're a big club and we've got some good players here as well.

"With us surviving and the fact the manager is a big character will also attract players to this club.

"So I'm sure that any players we've targeted would love to come here.

"I think we can also compete with some of the more established clubs although we can't afford to get carried away.

"The teams that have already been promoted are very good sides so it's going to be a very difficult season again.

"But we believe we can build on this season because as last season went on, we gained in confidence and from January-February time, if we can replicate that kind of form throughout the season, I'm sure we'll be in a more secure position much earlier next season.

"The main aim is survival again but just like all Wolves fans, I'm sure we'd all like to see us build on this season and become an established Premier League team."
