Learning From Experience

Posted on: Thu 20 May 2010

Kevin Foley believes that Barclays Premier League survival will prove even tougher for Wolves next season.

But the versatile Irish international is also confident Wolves will be better prepared for life at the top - thanks to the added experience gleaned over the last ten months.

Foley's season is not quite over, as, having been to a Republic of Ireland training camp, he will be joined by Andy Keogh and Kevin Doyle in the squad for next week's Dublin friendlies with Paraguay and Algeria.

After that attentions during the summer break will turn towards the return to league hostilities and another big challenge facing Wolves next season.

"A lot of the lads have got 20 or 30 games under their belts now which will definitely help for next season," says Foley.

"There won't be that same nervousness again and that extra experience we've got should be a real benefit at the start of next season.

"I do think next season is going to be even tougher.

"I know everyone says it but it will be and expectations will be a little bit higher because we've managed to stay up.

"We won't always be the underdogs in games like we have this season as we were for almost every game.

"But those expectations being a little bit higher is a good thing for the players because we want to aim as high as we can and do as well as we can."

One area in which Wolves are hoping to prepare well is by adding to the squad in a bid to avoid the dreaded "Second Season Syndrome".

Foley believes that sort of ambition will be welcomed by current members of the playing staff who just want to see the club making further progress.

He added:  "Strengthening the squad will be good.

"I'm sure it's the same at every club in the country.

"No matter how well you've done, you are always striving to do better and that included strengthening the squad.

"The gaffer is ambitious, just like all the club.

"Everyone is all for anything that can help the club get that little bit better."

It was a mixed season for Foley - not so good over the first half after suffering an opening day injury but impressive during the second as he slotted into a previously unfamiliar right midfield slot to great aplomb.

He feels he too has certainly learned from the experience.

"On a personal note playing games at this level has certainly helped me," he explains.

"I've got to know a lot more about the Premier League.

"It's a fantastic place to play and I'm really looking forward to trying to have another go next season."
