Boss Mick McCarthy has targeted victory over Sunderland in Sunday's final game of the season to ensure Wolves meet the one-point-a-game average for the Barclays Premier League season.
The higher the finish in the table the more lucrative the place money reward from the league, which the boss admits will help the club.
But he also believes that there's motivation enough to try and finish in the respectable position of 14th should Wolves win and results drop kindly elsewhere.
"It helps the club to finish as high as we can," says the boss.
"I don't know what we budgeted for.
"If it was 17th and we finish 14th, then great, but if we budgeted for fifth then we've a problem!
"Any extra we can get out of it, fine, but it's not about that.
"We want the three points to finish on a high note where the fans see us win at home.
"Whatever we get on the back of it, great."
Mick continued: "We've achieved what we wanted but we are playing 38 games not 36.
"Sunderland can get 10th and that would be a real feather in their cap.
"They'll be wanting to achieve that.
"And we want to finish on a good note. 38 points - a point a game - would be terrific."
The boss, who may have Matt Jarvis available again for the seasonal swansong, has also started thinking about plans for next season with player recruitment.
As ever there is likely to be goings as well as comings, but the boss admits there won't be many desperate to leave Wolves.
"There'll be players coming and going, that's the natural process," he added.
"None of it's easy though.
"It's a good club, run well and is a happy place.
"People enjoy being here and there's a really good team spirit so breaking that up is never easy but I've got to do it.
"Not 'shattering' it but the players have formed a great bond and some will go, and some will be wanting to go.
"They will not want to be sat here as squad players."
