Michael Kightly today paid tribute to the Wolves squad for achieving Barclays Premier League survival - and apologised to the fans for his own lack of involvement.

The popular winger is continuing to receive treatment for problems with his patella tendons, having made ten appearances this season, four of them starts, before suffering an injury against Birmingham in November.

That was the time when Kightly was just coming to the boil, and his delight and praise for his team-mates' efforts are countered by disappointment at his own contribution.

"I'm buzzing for the boys after they achieved survival," said the 24-year-old.

"And I'm also buzzing for myself because hopefully I'll get the chance to play in the Premier League fully fit.

"But at the moment I'm just really pleased for everyone at the club from the chairman to the kitman.

"Everyone has worked really hard and the club deserve to have stayed up.

"I've had a little taste of it earlier in the season.

"But I think the only thing I've really done is win a penalty against Aston Villa.

"That's the only contribution I've made which is disappointing.,

"I'm gutted for that and want to apologise to everyone at the club and every single fan for that.

"Hopefully I can prove my worth next year."

Wolves' securing their top flight status has at least taken some of the pressure off Kightly's recovery as he can look forward to trying to be back involved with the Premier League rather than the Championship.

"It's definitely given me a little taste and made me more hungry if I could have got any more hungry than I actually am!" he added.

"I just need to get fit.

"I've struggled this season mentally this year as well as physically and it's important not just for me to be playing but for my career to get back fit.

"It's certainly nicer to know that when I'm fit again then there's a season in the Premier League to look forward to.

"If we had got relegated it would have been disappointing to have worked so hard to get to the Premier League both for me and the team.

"Surviving has certainly taken a weight off my shoulders and I thank all the boys for that and all the staff.

"I'm still working on recovering from the injury and have got a good few months now to get things right.

"I'll be in every day over the summer trying hard to do that."
