Foley Accentuates The Positives

Posted on: Thu 22 Apr 2010

Wolves have produced three goalless draws in the last four games which could perhaps be taken both ways - positive of some extremely solid foundations but negative of not finding the net.

Defender-turned-midfielder Kevin Foley prefers to see the glass as half full as Wolves head into Saturday's clash with Blackburn.

"We've looked quite solid over the second part of the season and that has given us something we can build on," he said.

"Picking up points and keeping clean sheets is more of a positive than the fact we've not scored too many recently because we know we can create chances.

"The solid foundations are important in giving us something to build on next season if we can go on to avoid relegation.

"I think we've developed more know-how as the season has gone on and become more disciplined in our play.

"Hopefully that puts us in good stead to pick up the points that we need over the final three games."

Foley admits part of the reason Wolves have grown in stature over the campaign has been a greater knowledge and awareness of what's expected from the Barclays Premier League.

And that has shown in the way they have taken on decent opposition such as Fulham in recent weeks and looked very much at home.

"At the beginning of the season you're not worried but you do wonder how much different the Premier League is going to be to what you're used to," he said.

"But once you get a few results and performances under your belt, it eases you in and you start to adapt.

"We've played some good football in recent games and I am sure the goals will come.

"We picked up another hard-earned point against Fulham last weekend from a tough game.

"It's all about getting as many points on the board as we can now and they are probably not going to be brilliant games.

"We're just trying to take something from every game so to come away with something on Saturday was good."

It's been a rollercoaster season in the top flight littered with surprise results from time to time, not least Wigan's win over Arsenal at the weekend which took the Latics above Wolves in the table.

But Hull's defeat at home to Aston Villa last night leaves Wolves six points in advance of the relegation zone with three games remaining.

Victory against Blackburn on Saturday would pretty much seal survival bar a potential massive fluctuation in goal difference.

"The strange results can happen at this time of year but they've also happened a lot during the season," added Foley.

"The top four have lost a lot more games than normal and games you wouldn't expect them to lose.

"People have been taking points off everyone else and there is still a lot to play for.

"Hopefully if we can get one more win that should see us safe.

"If we can do it against Blackburn in front of our home fans it would be ideal."
