Edwards Hails Unbelievable Support

Posted on: Tue 20 Apr 2010

Dave Edwards today paid tribute to the continuing wonderful backing of the Molineux faithful by declaring: "It's unbelievable."

The Wolves midfielder admits the squad were once again heartened by the sellout following which sung loud and proud at Fulham's Craven Cottage on Saturday, with the numbers swelled further by the travelling fans taking over most of the 'neutral' section as well.

Boss Mick McCarthy described the support as "awesome", and Edwards says the team would like to pay the fans back with a positive result at home to Blackburn on Saturday.

"The support is unbelievable," said the midfielder.

"Everywhere you go you are still surprised by it.

"When we got to the ground on Saturday we saw all the Wolves fans in the street and there was a great atmosphere.

"We went out to warm up and saw how big that end was and it finished up being full of gold everywhere.

"The fans have been fantastic all season and hopefully they'll keep with us over these last few games as I'm sure they will.

"It's something special to see the away ends so full and it always gives us an extra push.

"I think a big part of us being where we are this season is down to them and we are grateful for their support.

"Hopefully we can now give them something to shout about at home as well, starting with Blackburn on Saturday."

On the game itself Edwards admits it was something of a "bore-draw" but made no apologies given it was another crucial point gained in the bid for Barclays Premier League survival.

"It was a bit of a bore-draw but another point and most importantly another point towards safety," he said.

"And Hull didn't do any better than us which was good news.

"I know people will look at us not having scored for a few games but we've still been picking up points.

"Fulham are a good team at home and a lot of teams have struggled there.

"They're in the semi finals of the Europa Cup because they are a good team and yet we've managed to take four points off them this season."

Edwards, making his second start since returning from ankle surgery before Christmas, was involved in one of the more promising moments of the game latching onto Kevin Foley's pass before firing over after the interval.

"I had a chance in the second half," he acknowledged.

"I was just waiting for the ball to come down and was trying to put it back across the goal but maybe snatched at it a little bit and got too much height on it.

"It was a half chance but maybe I should have hit the target."

And while Wolves didn't manage to find the net for the fourth successive game, the Welsh international believes it's important to stay solid as the season nears its conclusion.

"If we're solid and always in the game then that's a big plus in the Premier League," he explained.

"The quality is so good that there's always the possibility of being 3-0 down at half time and out of the game.

"So the longer you can stay in the game the more we know we've got a chance to go on and win it.

"We know we can create chances and if we've got that solid base, if we do get a goal it's usually enough to win the game."
