Zubar: Setting The Standard

Posted on: Fri 26 Mar 2010

Ronald Zubar believes Wolves have set the standard in Tuesday's excellent victory at West Ham - and has called for more of the same between now and the end of the season.

The French defender was part of a hugely impressive team display at Upton Park, crowned in his own case by a first Premier League goal as he tucked away David Jones' pinpoint pass shortly after half time.

But the 24-year-old insists Wolves are not yet finished in terms of their performances with more points still required to be safe of avoiding the drop.

"We worked very hard during the game and started well," says Zubar.

"We were determined not to make any mistakes and we knew before the game that there was going to be pressure.

"Kevin got us the goal in the first half and then we carried on from there with two more in the second.

"We've got seven points from three away games which is great but we are not finished.

"We've got another big game on Saturday and we have to go again.

"We still need to get some more points to try and stay where we are at 15th or 16th in the table.

"If we play like this in every game between now and the end of the season then we will stay up."

Zubar's clinical finish in the 3-1 victory was his second goal for Wolves following on from his FA Cup thunderbolt against Crystal Palace at Molineux.

It also prompted some joyous celebrations for players and team-mates in front of the delirious away support.

"It was a great ball by Jonah and I managed to hit it sweetly," added Zubar.

"I'm very happy for me and for the fans and everyone.

"When I got the pass I was thinking I'd scored a similar goal for the France-under-21 team from that position and when I hit it I thought it was in.

"It was a special moment to score right in front of the Wolves fans."
