Kightly Making Progress

Posted on: Tue 23 Mar 2010

Michael Kightly has revealed he is making good progress in his recovery from injury, helped by receiving some treatment from a top specialist in Barcelona.

Kightly has combined his treatment with the Wolves Medical team with several visits to be treated by Dr Jose Manuel Sanchez as he aims to sort out problems with his patella tendons and has started doing some light work outside when back at Compton.

The winger is still not setting any targets in terms of when he might be available again, and is also due to make another visit out to Spain for a further bout of treatment.

"I have been back outside doing a bit of running and am making good progress," says Kightly.

"I am feeling a lot better and the treatment I am getting out in Barcelona is playing a big part.

"Jose is arguably one of the best specialists available when it comes to rehabilitating patella tendons injuries.

"He has worked with some of the top players from across Europe and the treatment I am receiving has certainly seen an improvement in my condition.

"I am still not setting myself any targets or anything like that and the gaffer is not putting any pressure on me as to when I'll be available.

"It really is one of those situations when I'll be ready when I'm ready and all I'm thinking about at the moment is hopefully getting back into training soon.

"It's been a long process and has been frustrating but there is no point taking any risks and I'll only be back when everything feels right."

Kightly has been a keen observer from the sidelines as the rest of his team-mates have been battling for Barclays Premier League survival.

"The lads have put in some great performances recently and the results at Burnley and Villa were fully deserved," he added.

"While it's been a disappointing season for me so far with injury it's been good to see the team holding their own and if they can keep it going there's a good chance we'll be able to survive."

Wolves Head of the Medical department Steve Kemp is pleased that the combination of treatment is having a positive effect.

He said:  "Michael is looking really good and we are very happy with his progress at this stage.

"We searched throughout Europe for the best specialists with tendon problems and Jose's name came up several times.

"Michael has put in an unbelievable effort with his rehabilitation and finally is seeing the benefits of all his hard work.

"Dr Sanchez deserves a lot of the credit for these improvements, we have worked closely to combine our rehabilitation with his therapy and we feel it has been a successfully process so far.

"We are very grateful for his input, and he will continue to see Michael until he is considered fully fit.

"As Michael said, we are keen not to put a time scale on the injury as he has now been out of first team action for over three months now so we need to ensure he is fully 'match fit' prior to any first team return."
