Jones On Jarvis

Posted on: Thu 18 Mar 2010

David Jones has hailed the impact of Matt Jarvis in Wolves' season as he admitted the team all need to be chipping in with goals to help Wolves secure their top flight status.

Jarvis has been a thorn in the side of many Premier League full backs in an impressive season so far, and added his third goal into the mix thanks to some good anticipation and neat footwork at Burnley on Saturday.

And with Wolves' second goal at Turf Moor coming from an Adlene Guedioura shot which was deflected, Jones believes it's important for all the squad to carry on shooting!

"Jarvo was a vital player last season and he is again this season," said Jones.

"With his pace, he's a real threat and he's staying fit which is important.

"He's a good outlet for midfielders like myself to use and since I've been back in the team we've linked up well.

"He's done really well and I'm really pleased for him because he works really hard.

"Hopefully we can get a few more assists and goals before the end of the season.

"In recent weeks we've played good football and constructed some good moves without having that killer instinct, or no one has really stepped up to the plate to score or force the keeper into too many saves.

"But on Saturday, Karl Henry was telling us before the game that if we get a chance, we should shoot because we wanted to get in as many shots as possible.

"I know we didn't get too many clear strikes at goal, but luckily, the shots we did get in, counted."

The awayday success at Burnley set Wolves up nicely for the next two claret-and-blue trips to Aston Villa and West Ham.

Clearly both will be tough, but confidence is high.

"The win at Burnley set us up nicely for those games and I think we're capable of getting something from both of them," Jones added.

"This will hopefully give us the confidence to go away and win more.

"If we put on a good performance we feel we can get something from Villa and I'm sure the Burnley win will give us even more confidence to do that.

"Villa have had a really good season and they're pushing for a Champions League spot.

"But I'm sure we'll go there full of confidence and enjoy playing at Villa Park as well.

"And I'm sure it will mean a lot to the fans if we get a result there because it's a local derby."
